We are here on Christmas Eve to remind ourselves about the story of our Lord. Christmas is an occasion to recall the sacrifices made by the Lord – the Almighty became a human with life, flesh and blood… Christmas literally means Mass for Christ. The message that we ought to remember on the holy occasion of Christmas is that of peace and joy… The message sent out is we have to share our wealth with the needy and the deprived… we should comprehend that if the Lord lived in our family and if we followed the directives of the Lord in our personal and family lives then we would be filled with joy and peace that never ends… The Roman religion was replaced by Christianity and Jesus became the true light which was similar to the Roman ‘sun-god’. The celebration of Christmas got popularized and by the end of the 4th century AD probably December 25 was assigned as the date of birth of Jesus Christ. Ever since, year after year, on the holy occasion of Christmas a call goes out to humanity to be more human in their approach to life… it would not be wrong to infer that celebration of Christmas is no longer a Christian festival; it is a universal festival having worldwide appeal cutting across all barriers of religions!
